Members of Golspie Angling Club had a enjoyable if at times challenging outing to Loch Shin for the annual Clarkson Trophy competiton.
Four boats took to the water on what started as a very dreich Sunday Morning , brightened up considerably by the bacon rolls and hot tea/coffee provided at the venue of Lairg Angling Club.
Conditions on the day were changeable, and provided challenging fishing at times , though despite the sky darkening to near black at one point the seemingly inevitable soaking never materialised and the day mainly consisted of a mixture of wind directions and speed interspersed with light showers.
Traditional wet flies proved the winning conbination for the winner of the competion Mr Peter O Neill who landed an impressive 18 fish for a total of 117 points on Black Pennell variants.
Largest fish caught were three measuring 13 inches.
In total 72 fish were taken between the four boats.
A great day was had by all, so much so that half the participants seemed quite reluctant to leave ! (naming no names)
Many thanks to the hospitality of Lairg Angling Club and to those members who attended and made the day so enjoyable.
