Typical Scottish summer today, four seasons in a day!
If you're fishing Loch Lunndaidh, be aware that there's ongoing works to reinforce the dam, so the parking area at the loch is out of use. Best to leave any vehicles at the top forestry gate and walk from there.
Work will take about 5 weeks I've been told.
Started the day in day in fairly calm and still conditons. There was a small hatch of brown mayfly evident , and sporadic rises across the loch.
Heavy rain followed , and a wind that picked up and dropped intermittently.
After a bit of trial and error, discovered that the fish were loving an orange pattern today, slashing at it in the heavy waves I must have missed three times as many as were hooked.
Biggest fish of the day was just under 2lb, and its heavy belly suggest its been eating caddis or snails.
Proof in the pudding!
Ended the day with 17 fish when the wind really picked up and it was time to head home.
Full bodied Loch Lunndaidh trout.
Permits available at Lindsays , Main Street, Golspie.
